Canada Global (Web News) The army reported that sixteen troops died and 4 injured on Friday in India’s distant northeast after the military truck carrying them slid down a cliff and collapsed.
When the accident occurred in the state of Sikkim, the truck carrying the soldiers was travelling through a dangerous bend in a mountainous region near the Chinese border.
The eastern command of the Indian Army confirmed in a statement that three officers and 13 troops had perished from injuries as a result of the accident and that “a rescue mission was immediately begun” and that “four injured soldiers have been air evacuated.”
Sikkim has some of India’s most dangerous high-altitude roadways, notably near the isolated Himalayan border with Tibet.
Each year, numerous troops are killed in accidents involving army vehicles close to the extensive border with China and Pakistan.
