
Canada Global(Web News)One person died and two others were injured in a fire in Toronto’s Little Italy neighborhood on Thursday morning.
Toronto Fire Chief Jim Jessop said his crews were called to a two-alarm fire at a three-storey building on College Street near Bathurst Street around 10:30 a.m. When firefighters arrived, they saw heavy flames and smoke coming from the windows. Jessop said three people were rescued from the burning building, but one was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other people rescued from the fire were taken to hospital with minor, non-life-threatening injuries, according to paramedics.
Toronto Fire says the building has commercial space on the first floor and residential space on the second and third floors. He said the fire started on one of the residential floors. Jessop confirmed the fire was under control, but said crews would remain on scene for several hours. He said the fire was fully contained by around 5 p.m. However, roads on College Street between Clinton Street and Manning Avenue are closed. The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to investigate
